Angola man, who was convicted of the crash to prison, in which the 8-year-old boy from Blasdell was killed

Buffalo, NY (WKBW)-The public prosecutor's office of the Erie district announced that 53-year-old Markus R. Genovese was sentenced by Angola in front of the Erie County Court five to 15 years in prison and his driving license of the state of New York was revoked.

According to the DA office, Genovese drove north on Route 5 on Route 5 in Hamburg on June 8, 2024 when he fell against another vehicle that was stopped at the intersection to bend left onto the Eckhardt Road. He drove under the influence of alcohol and drugs and without a valid driver's license when he crashed. After the crash, he left his vehicle and ran from the scene. He was in the forest nearby a short time later.

Two children were passengers in the vehicle who met Genovese. Eight -year -old Thomas Ross von Blasdell, who was sitting on the back seat on the driver's side, was killed in the crash. A four -year -old, who was sitting on the back seat on the side of the passenger, was injured and brought to the Oisheihei Children's Hospital, where he was treated and released for injuries.

In March, Genovese guilty of a homicide of a second degree, a number of Vehicle Totage second degree and a count of leaving the scene of an incident that led to death.
