Uva Children's Radiothon emphasizes the effects on the community and the urgent need for expansion

Charlottesville, va (especially Cville at the moment) – When Uva Children's celebrates the 10th anniversary of his Cares for Kids Radiothon, the deputy development director Erin Chandler played for Morning News to emphasize the crucial role that provides the support of the community in the care of families across Virginia. “The support of the community is a large part of the cake,” explained Chandler, explaining how donations finance non-cheap services such as accommodation, food and gas cards for families that leave long distances for treatment. She emphasized the importance of these services, especially how many families remain for a long time: “We have parishioners and only a really strong basis for philanthropy in this community, which does everything that a full home for a family live in which months.”

Chandler presented the “Miracle Maker” program, where donors give 12 US dollars a month to maintain these important efforts. “Your contribution makes miracles in our health system,” she said. Donations also support tools such as “Buzzy Bees” that reduce pain and stress for children who receive injections. “They are also $ 60 per piece and we see the entire UVA Peds Network, 131,000 patients a year,” said Chandler and emphasized the continuing need for philanthropic funds to support growing patient population.

The urgency can be felt in particular in the newborn and pediatric intensive care units of the hospital, which are often in functioning or capacity. “Our intensive care unit runs between 97 and 105%daily,” said Chandler and led both the increasing demand and the unique ability of UVA to look after the medically fragile infants. As part of a large tower expansion, plans for the expansion from 60 to 100 Nicu beds will be underway. “We are more than enthusiastic,” she added. “The support of the community and the philanthropic dollars is what the cake fills and will help us get there faster.”
