On Thursday, the Trump administration blocked the ability of Harvard University to record future international students and to maintain their existing registered foreign students.

Kristi Noem, Secretary of the Ministry of Homeland, ordered DHS employees to revoke the certification of Harvard's student and visitor program with which universities can register foreign students.

DHS said that “existing foreign students not only have to sign up for future international students in order to lose their legal status”. The revocation, which according to DHS was the result of “pro-terrorist behavior”, was first reported by the New York Times.

In autumn 2023 semesters, international students made up more than 27% of the total enrollment from Harvard.

“Harvard is responsible for promoting violence, anti -Semitism and coordination with the Chinese party's Communist Party on their campus,” said Noem in a statement published on the social media website X.

“It is a privilege to not register foreign students and benefit from their higher tuition fees in order to block their foundations of several billion dollars. Harvard had enough opportunity to do the right thing,” said Noem.

“It declined.”

CNBC has requested a comment from Harvard on the way that comes in a continuing struggle between the Ivy League School and the administration due to concerns about anti -Semitism.

Noem had threatened in April to revoke Harvard's ability to record international students.

At that time, she warned the university that her certification for the enrollment of foreign students depends on compliance with the federal immigration laws.

The administration in April called for the scholarships of 2.2 billion US dollars to Harvard, hours after the university had rejected the demands that it eliminated diversity, equity and inclusion programs, and evaluated international students to ideological concerns.
