Greenville's new way for pedestrian security after the child's death

Greenville, NC (Witn) – A project to improve pedestrian safety in Greenville will begin soon after a child was killed in 2023.

The city council has approved an agreement with the Ministry of Transport for the Community Center Pathway project.

Officials say that this project will create a pedestrian path from the north side of the Eppes Recreational Center to a pedestrian crossing at the Memorial Drive and the Third Street. The path will help connect the Thomas Foreman/Eppes area to the Moywood district.

This project follows the death of 9-year-old Jayceon EPPS, who was hit by a vehicle in March 2023 when he crossed South Memorial Drive. Family members say that Epps was on the way home from basketball in the Rec Center.

According to a press release from the Office of Strategic Initiative and Program Support Carbon Reduction Program, the financing of the project.
