The proposal could enable swimming officials to use videos to make violations

The NCAA committee for men and women swimming and diving rules in its virtual session this week proposed to enable the use of real-time videos with underwater cameras, if available, to enable civil servants to make violation.

The video check is currently being used in the available underwater cameras to confirm violations that are appointed by an official.

All proposals for rules must be approved by the NCAA supervisory board of the game rules before it becomes official. When the committee meets to discuss the swimming and diving recommendations on July 17, the changes in the rules for the academic year 2025-26 will be effective.

The members of the rules committee believe that civil servants should use the technology, if available, to ensure the proper application of the technical rules.

Misconceptic

The members of the committee recommended the use of the video check to determine whether the starter's claim is correct after a false start for individual events.

The video check could be used for championship or invitational competitions that are ruled by a meeting or game committee that consists of representatives of several schools.

Before the competition begins, the Meet Committee should be made a decision when video reviews are carried out and all participants should be informed.

If there is a video check in the championship meeting, all disqualifications are checked to evaluate whether the false start should be confirmed. The referee and a conference or NCAA representative of the committee without participating school affiliation could check the video to determine whether there are clear evidence of the rise of the call.

The referee would have the sole authority of the review. The decision would be a judgment that is not subject to further review or appeal.

Other suggestions

  • Allow the final and championship finals to be decided by the respective championship committee.
  • Clarify that changing lanes would lead to disqualification for some reason during a race, while other swimmers still compete.
  • Dive Technical rules with USA Swimming and World Aquatics Standards.

  • Proximity to the diving board during the flight.
  • Definition of the tapping position.
  • Description of the diving positions.
  • Align diving referees and responsibilities at the USA Swimming and World Aquatics standards.

    • Protocols for bad weather.
    • Clarification of the point allocation and the process for incorrect position.
    • Explanation of the failed dives.

The committee also confirmed that 50 yard stroke events are permitted in all championship meetings and made it clear that in the event of an appointment in the championship championship, the Meet Committee had the authority to act in cases of procedures, but not to plunge off the rules.

“I am proud of the NCAA committee for swimming and diving rules and their efforts this year to improve the rule book,” said Abigail Howard, chairman of the committee and deputy director for athletics and chief administrative officers at Army West Point. “The committee consists of coaches and administrators who are committed to promoting sport.”
