Fashion. Friendship. And one side of the crime.

A Newhall fashion boutique became a meeting point for true crime fans on Friday. Care Tucker, a fashion-forward boutique in the old town of Newhall, organized his first wine and crime night, which was led by the podcast moderator Jami Rice by “Murderish”. The event has mixed model lovers, true crime stories and thematic cocktails such as “Pretty Little Poison” and “Hot on the Case”.

“I always want to create different experiences for the community,” said Carolyn Tucker. “When I found out that Jami was a criminal podist – and I'm a total true criminal police officer – it only made sense.”

Rice, a Castaic inhabitant, was a jury foreper at Robert Arvizu's murder processes from 2017, who had killed his 25-year-old wife Courtney Arvizu in her Newhall apartment.

“My fascination and interest are really in the psychology of a murderer. I want to go into the spirit of a murderer and understand what is different about her brain,” said Rice. “It's not just about the cases – it's about understanding psychology and the judicial system. In many ways everyone started here in Santa Clarita.”

Tucker, a native of Santa Clarita and Hart High School graduate, said her business was a long -time dream.

“When my husband and I moved to Happy Valley in 2021, we did Date Nights on Main,” she said. “I always told him: 'One day we will open a shop on this street.'”

This goal was brought to life with the opening of the Care Tucker Style House, just a few steps away from her favorite restaurants.

During the event, Rice discussed cases such as Karen Read, the brothers Menendez and Sean “Diddy” Combs. She ended with a personal story about how she was followed by Stater Bros. and found a man who had written her bedroom through a glass door.

“We wanted this to be more than murdered talks,” said Tucker. “We wanted a community connection. We wanted girls' time. But we also wanted glamor, grit and gossip.”

Tessa Navarro, a guest from the Canyon Country, said: “I came because of fashion, crime and Margaritas – and went with all three.”

“My favorite part was to meet as many incredible women. It was like the ultimate SCV girl evening,” added Navarro. “I've always wanted to be a detective. This was the perfect way to live out this imagination – at least for one night.”

When asked whether more events would follow, Tucker replied: “Absolutely. Stay tuned, ladies.”
