The first local diplomacy day emphasizes the power of citizen diplomacy

The San Diego Diplomatacy Council celebrated the city's first “diplomacy day” on Thursday afternoon and pulled a lot to the international cottages in Balboa Park to emphasize the power of citizen diplomacy.

The event attracted numerous volunteers who visited diplomats and city officials. Organizations ranging from San Diego of the United Nations to Sister Cities International.

Benjamin Moore, the advisor to the foreign matters of the mayor Todd Gloria, started the official program.

“We are the 8th largest city in America; we are part of the fourth largest economy in the world, the state of California. We have the greatest concentration of military assets in the world; above all a model of binational cooperation with our Mexican partners,” he said.

“You can easily see that San Diego is ready to run on a global level, and that's why we're all here.”

City council member Stephen Whitburn read a proclamation, and the Mexican Consul General Alicia G. Kerber-Palma addressed the crowd of the role of women in international diplomacy.

“Let us take the opportunity to promote an international agenda on the day of diplomacy that really offers women at the negotiating table,” she said.

The non -profit San Diego Diplomaty Council tries to create integrative professional, cultural and pedagogical experiences in order to combine local and global Changemacher and to promote convergence in a different world.
