Crime Lab processes the prison escape scene while there is an impact on evidence storage

New Orleans (Wvue) – Almost a week after 10 inmates fled from the Orleans Parish community center Justice, the crime lab in New Orleans is now processing evidence on site.

District Prosecutor Jason Williams said the time was crucial to ensure that no evidence is destroyed.

On Thursday afternoon, NOPD Crime Labentechnicians were worn out of prison with evidence. Williams said the investigation focused on the pod and the route that the 10 violent criminals had escaped earlier.

“We were in this corridor of this cell, behind this toilet and process the whole area for everything we need in court to prove a case,” said Williams.

The investigators collect everything from fingerprints to other DNA, which are usually gathered at a standard crime scene. Williams claims that Sheriff Susan Hutson has not asked that the Crime Lab collects as much forensic evidence as possible.

“We have to make sure that we concentrate on this crime scene, the destruction of these bars, this toilet,” said Williams. “Who could have helped these people to get out … whether in a uniform or not in a uniform.

Williams confirmed that his office sheriff Hutson and her employees issued lectures.

“Look, we just do our job,” said Williams. “We collect as much evidence and information as possible so that we can find out who is all involved.”

The office of the DA also sent letters to the Sheriff and asked them to voluntarily submit DNA samples.

“Ask these roles, protocols, surveillance material, all operations of the sheriff office … Everything that remembers is preserved from April 1 to yesterday,” said Williams.

The then said that law enforcement continues to work around the clock, hoping to regain the remaining refugees.

FOX 8 has contacted the Sheriff's office of the municipality of Orleans to comment on the investigation of the crime laboratory and the preloads of the DA, but has not yet received an answer.
