Fort Wayne's teen killed in February was honored what was her 18th birthday

Fort Wayne, Ind. (Wpta) – Sincerely Thomas' family says that she is pronounced, intelligent and successful at the age of 17.

Although she was not there to celebrate her 18th birthday on Wednesday, her family and friends gathered to honor her life and heritage.

Her uncle Louis Bright organized the meeting to raise awareness of gun violence, which ultimately claimed his niece's life, but also celebrate her legacy as a 4.0 student, young entrepreneur and committed Christian.

“She was too big, as she would say, for Fort Wayne,” said Bright. “She was certain to do really great and big things.”

Bright said he hoped that his niece's legacy will inspire others to pursue their dreams.

Next week your family will honor you again at your Abitur in her Abitur. One of her brothers will accept her diploma from Wayne High School in her name.

Her accused murderer, 16-year-old Jamir Benson, is due to go to court in August. He faces himself in connection with the murder for murder and robberies.
