Ex-major Leaguer Call in it sued Reds for career-end injury

Almost two years after his last game, the former Major Leaguer called a lawsuit against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday about an injury to the Great American Ball Park, which he claimed to end his career.

According to the lawsuit in Hamilton County (Ohio) Common Pleas, call was injured in Cincinnati during a game on June 2, 2023 in Cincinnati while playing for the Milwaukee Brewers.

During this game, Ruf hunted a Luke Maile -Foul Ball on the right field line when he played the first basis and hit the edge of a rolled tarpaulin to leave the game. He suffered a broken kneecap and a knee injury by CBS and was placed on the 60-day injured list.

After the lawsuit, the injury prevented him from resuming his career.

“It didn't have to happen. I wish it hadn't happened,” said Ruf in a publication. “The players shouldn't have to worry about hidden dangers in a field in the major League.”

The lawsuit claims that the tarpaulin consisting of metal had no pillow or a cap to offer protection and that the red liability for the negligence of the crew of the crew.

“This was an obvious and avoidable risk,” said Tad Thomas, Ruf's lawyer, in the press release. “There are fundamental security protocols that every MLB team should follow. It is unexcused to leave a unaduvited metal roller on the edge of the field.”

The 38-year-old call started his nine-year career at the Philadelphia Phillies and played five seasons before moving to the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets. In May 2023 he joined the brewers and played in 11 games before the knee injury.

In 581 games, Ruf scored with 67 Homern and 205 RBIS .239.
