Police publishes the body camera video of fatal Swat shootings in Columbus

Body Camera film material shows the perspective of the officers during a tense hostage situation that ended on Monday evening with the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Jerry Smith through Swat officers.

The incident occurred on the Hampton Woods Court after a neighbor named 911 reported that she had heard that a woman was attacked and threatened.

The film material reveals that officials arrive shortly before 10 p.m. and try to negotiate with Smith for over an hour.

“Come outside when you are able to do so,” civil servants are heard and say and ask Smith to work together. Moments later, the officials found that Smith was armed and asked them to withdraw and call Swat.

When the situation escalated, the officials reported that they heard several shots in the house.

“Another shot, another shot,” said an officer, noticing that one of the shots was aimed at her. Smith reportedly opened the door with a weapon in his hand and a female hostage near midnight. Swat officers then opened the fire, which led to Smith's death.

The woman was treated in a local hospital. A neighbor provided the officials information that described loud bang and threats of Smith, including “You will die tonight”.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation continues to be examined.
