UCF trio emphasizes Big 12 Rowing Awards

Hannah Lovejoy from UCF (Rower of the Year), Lucy Buckingham (Newcomer of the Year) and Mara Allen (coach of the year) highlighted the 2025 Big 12 Rowing Awards after the knights received the first Big 12 championship of the program and an offer for the NCAA championships. Laura Teska (Kansas) and Sydnee Blackburn (Old Dominion) were chosen as co-layer athletes of the year.
Lovejoy helped the UCF 1V8+to win his race at the Big 12 championship with 16 seconds, and rowed out of the bow position. She was part of two crews who conquered Big 12 Boat of the Week honors and received the team's Lading Knight Award, which is awarded to the highest participants in the team per season. It is the first UCF rower to win the best individual honor of the conference.
Buckingham was on the four-seat of the 1V8+ the Knights', which a few Boat of the Week won and won the title clinching race at the Big 12 Championship. The newcomer only began rowing at the high school in her final year before he came to UCF and earned a place in the university eight. It is the first knight to record the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors.
In their second season at the head of the program, everyone led the UCF program at the Big 12 championship to a path of all six races. The Knights have collected their first offer for the NCAA championship since 2019, which lasts on May 30th to June 1st in West Windsor, New Jersey
Teska deserves her second honor in follow-up athlete of the year in a row and keeps a 3.99 GPA in molecular, cellular and developmental biology. She was part of the KU 1V8+that Big 12 Boat of the Week won honors after defeating Kstate in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown. This is the third time that a Jayhawk Rowing Scholar-athlete of the Year honors.
Blackburn concluded her nursing with a 3.9 GPA and was elected team captain in the team of the monarch. She rowed from the three seats on Odus Varsity eight and has found time to voluntarily report hundreds of hours in a local hospital and will begin her career on a pediatric newborn intensive care unit. She is the first old Dominion athlete to win a Big 12 annual award.
