Columbia University that is accused

On Thursday, the Trump government claimed that Columbia University had violated the Bundesgerrechtsgesetz by dealing with “deliberate indifference” over the harassment of Jewish students on campus since October 2023.

The U.S. Ministry of Health and Human Services for Civil Rights, accused Columbia of violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act from 1964, prohibits discrimination on the basis of racial, color and national origin in programs and activities. The announcement is part of a series of measures by the joint task force of the federal government to combat anti -Semitism, which was created by President Donald Trump in February.

A spokesman for Columbia gave the announcement as a further step in the work of the university with the government in order to determine the best opportunities to combat anti -Semitism on campus.

“We understand that this knowledge is part of our ongoing discussions with the government. Columbia is deeply obliged to combat anti -Semitism and all forms of harassment and discrimination on our campus,” the spokesman told CNN. “We take these problems seriously and will work with the Ministry of Health and Human Services and the Ministry of Education to tackle them.”

The government claims that Columbia “does not constantly protect Jewish students” and “extensive investigation results” from October 7, 2023 to the present day, citing Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel and the Israeli military to ensure war in Gaza.

“The results are carefully documenting that the enemy Jewish students from Columbia University last over 19 months and their training, security and well-being disturbed,” said Anthony Archeval, acting director of the HHS office for civil rights, in the press release. “We encourage Columbia University to work with us to get an agreement that reflects sensible changes that will really protect Jewish students.”

The university was accused of not finding any effective mechanisms to combat anti -Semitism by last summer. The administration also accused the university of not investigating vandalism in classrooms, enforcing restrictions on protests that were held on campus, and adheres to their guidelines when reaction to complaints from the Jewish students.

Elite universities in the United States – including Columbia – were intensively under pressure by the administration to meet the demands for changes in school policy or the loss of risk of the federal government.

Last spring, Propalestinian demonstrators at Columbia University initiated a wave of demonstrations on the college campus across the country, which culminated in camps and mass arrests.

In March, the administration announced that it terminated grants and contracts of 400 million US dollars to Columbia University, as it thinks the school failure to fail to lift anti -Semitism on campus.

The administration called for several changes, including new rules for protests, the ban on masks, a plan to hold student groups for accounting, and a review of Columbia's study programs in Middle East. The university then announced a number of new guidelines, including restrictions on demonstrations.

Other elite institutions were also punished for refusing to bow to the political requirements of the administration. On Thursday on Thursday, the Trump administration revoked the ability of Harvard University to record international students, and accused the leadership of the school “to make their one-large institution in a hot bed of anti-American, anti-Semitic, protterrorist agitators”.
