Stolen moped and motorcycle with fake check bought in portage County

Rosholt, Wis. (WSAW) – Portage County Crime Stopers is looking for information on two separate crimes from the end of April/early May.

The sheriff of Portage County, Mike Lukas, says that the check of a fraudulent cashier is used to buy a motorcycle, and the other is a moped that was stolen while a few hiked.

According to the authorities, James and Tanion Bowker's motorcycle was offered for sale on Craigslist by Rosholt. The 2014 Moto Guzzi Griso has two rear-view mirrors and a sports visor with silver/gold exhaust pipes. The license plate was removed before the sale.

James, the owner, was contacted by Jayme via Craigslist on April 28 to build a time for him and his brother Paul to see the bike. The original owners describe Jaayme as a white man with brown hair, 5'7 '' tall and in the 30s. Paul is described as a white man, about 6 'tall, with brown hair.

Jayme and Paul drove a black or dark gray Hyundai sedan to the house on April 30th to buy the bike.

After checking the bicycle, Jayme James was a cashier check over 6,900 US dollars. Jayme and Paul then left the house by bike and said they would go to a friend in Wisconsin Rapids who had a trailer.

However, when the couple went to the bank on May 1st to submit the cashier's check, it was wrong.

“It is strange because I think that people did the right thing about the cashier's check,” said Sheriff Lukas.

The couple even added insurance on the bike a few days before the sale if someone wanted to test it. They did not give Jayme the title of the motorcycle.

Sheriff Lukas says they pursue the bike through his Vin and hopes that the uniqueness of the bike will recognize people more easily. He says that when it comes to these cash purchases, you should keep the article you sell until your bank removes the check.

In the second crime, a couple who wanted to hike along the Ice Age Trail in Portage County on May 3.

According to the authorities, Jack and Sarah Kampf, who do not come from the area, have driven their trucks and their Honda 2017 I wanted to end where they wanted to end their 12-mile hike so that they would have a return trip.

“You dropped your moped in County A and County Highway T in the city of Alban,” said Sheriff Lukas. “They closed it to the actual telephone mast and then drove to the Marathon County, climbed on the ice age path, came back and when they returned the 12 miles, it was stolen.”

Jack says he also cut off his motorcycle helmet on a bike. He says the helmet has a value of around 50 US dollars and the moped is 1,800 US dollars. He also had the key to moped on him.

Jack added that she hiked the trail many times and nothing like that.

The authorities contacted several shops in the region, but nobody said that they had made someone hand them over, replace a key or install a new ignition.

Sheriff Lukas says that you hope that the information about the motorcycle will help because she is a brand in central -Wisconsin.
