Bomb expert killed in Ukraine to be due to the Isle of Man

The body of a bomb disposal specialist who was killed in Ukraine is later to be attributed to the Isle of Man.

Chris Garrett died on May 6th in an incident in Izyum in the east of the country.

The 40-year-old volunteered at Ukraine National Guard after helping in the country in 2014 and 2017. He returned again when the war broke out in February 2022.

The veteran Jim Quinn organized a cavalry to accompany Mr. Garrett to his hometown Peel, and said: “It was the least we could do to bring this hero into his family.

Mr. Garrett had worked to clarify mines and to train Ukrainian troops after working a humanitarian and mine clearance charity organization called Prevail.

Mr. Quinn worked in the Royal Corps of Signals in the British army for 14 years, including tours through Bosnia and Afghanistan.

He said: “Respect and admiration that Chris has in Ukraine is reflected here in both the Ukrainian community and in the Manx community.”

The veteran hit the bombing specialist for the first time in 2014 and later entered Ukraine for two missions to provide humanitarian aid in Kyiv.

The remains of Mr. Garrett are hit with an honorary guard, with members of his family being present.

The Moddey Dhoo Motorcycle Club then leads the Cavalry from Ballasalla to the west coast of the island.

The chairman Brian Corrie said: “It is an honor to do something to help the family.”

He added that one of her members also served in Mr. Garrett in Ukraine, and he would be among the participants.

The convoy is to leave at 3:30 p.m. BS.
