Each of the 27,316 American flags placed in Veterans Park is a member of the Wisconsin service killed since the civil war.

Hundreds of volunteers spent the week building the field of flags. Despite two delays on rainy days, the display will be completed on Friday for the dedication ceremony 11 a.m.

The flags remain exhibited up to the memorial day.

The tradition of the Memorial Day des War Memorial Center began in 2020 with 2,972 American flags that represented members of the Milwaukee service who have been killed in action since World War II. The flag field was getting bigger and in 2024 he reached every Wisconsinit who died in service in her country.

“This mighty homage to the Freedom Award is a sight,” said Co Nguyen, President and CEO of the War Memorial Center. “We hope that everyone has the chance to go through the field of flags and to think about the importance of the day of memory. Freedom is certainly not free.”

The ceremony on Friday is free of charge and accessible to the public.
