President Donald Trump said on Friday that he “recommended a 50% tariff to the European Union” after complaining about the fact that trade negotiations were stalling.

The steep new import duties would begin on June 1st, Trump wrote about the social truth.

The EU “was very difficult to cope with,” wrote Trump. “Our discussions with them do not go anywhere!”

Trump's announcement came less than 30 minutes after threatening to impose a tariff of at least 25% Apple If the company does not begin to produce iPhones in the USA.

Stock futures sank to Trump's posts.

The European Union, which was formed as a main purpose of using the United States for trade, was very difficult to cope with. Their powerful trade barriers, VAT, ridiculous company penalties, non-monetary trade barriers, money manipulations, unfair and unjustified lawsuits against American companies and much more have led to a trade deficit with more than $ 250,000,000 a year, a number that is completely not acceptable. Our discussions with them do not go anywhere! Therefore, from June 1, 2025, I recommend a 50% tariff to the European Union. There is no tariff if the product is built or manufactured in the USA. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
