Gdot, we are teachers who start the teen video competition

Atlanta – The Georgia Department of Transportation and we are teachers who start a teen video competition to combat the detached driving.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia Dot) starts a new nationwide video landscape in collaboration with We Are Teachers, a leading national educational media organization to involve students in the fight against distracted driving.

The Video competition counts every second invites you Georgia inhabitants between the ages of 13 and 18 From August 1, 2025, which are currently inscribed in public, private or home school programs in Georgia, to create short, effective public announcements (PSAS), in which it is emphasized how even a few seconds of distraction behind the steering wheel can lead to dangerous or fatal consequences. The campaign enables the students to speak directly to their peers and community through creative stories and video production.

“We know that young people can be some of the most powerful supporters for changes,” said Russell R. McMurry, Dot Commissioner of Georgia. “This competition gives you the tools and the platform to raise awareness and make a real difference in how your friends and families think about driving. We are so pleased that Georgia was taken up by teachers, students and parents across the state, and we are pleased to see the creativity of the students of Georgia in the spread of the dangers of the distracted driving.

In order to help the students create strong entries, Georgia Dot have developed and we are teacher a Contest toolkitincluding:

  • A tip sheet for creating a convincing message
  • An empty storyboard to plan ideas
  • A fact sheet with distracted driving statistics

Exciting prices are waiting for the creators of the winning videos, which are not only presented on the Georgia Dot website, but are also used in future Outreach initiatives.

  • 1st place: $ 500 gift card
  • 2nd place: $ 400 gift card
  • 3rd place: $ 300 gift card
  • 5 honorary mention: 250 US dollar gift card each

In addition, a happy teacher receives a gift card of 500 US dollars just to share the program with your students.

The competition is part of the wider Keep Georgia safely Program that was launched last year to bring road security in K -12 classrooms throughout Georgia. Through interactive games, teaching plans, virtual excursions and printable resources, the program helps to build a culture of security for the next generation.
