Crime Alert: SMCPD examines the sexual battery on the campus in the library, not yet suspected

The Santa Monica College Police Department (SMCPD) examines a case of sexual battery on the campus of the Santa Monica College (SMC) on April 30th.

Around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the suspect supposedly turned to the victim, a student in the SMC library, and asked for a kiss. The victim tried to leave the scene.

The suspect, a man, then reached for the victim's groin area. Then he left the area in an “unknown direction” according to A District Bulletin.

The bulletin, who was sent on behalf of the SMCPD leader Johnnie Adams, the captain Kevin Kilgore and the SMCPD, stated that the police department then offered the victim support and resources.

SMCPD sent the bulletin as a timely warning, in contrast to an emergency notification, which indicates that there is an immediate threat to the security of the campus. A timely warning shows that the department does not believe that there is such a threat in this incident.

The suspect has black hair and is valued between 18 and 25 years old. His SMC affiliation is not reported via the bulletin. At this point, SMCPD is not ready to disclose further details.

An investigation of the incident continues. From 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, the suspect is not in custody.

“We actively work all leads to identify and capture the suspect,” Adams told Corsair in an explanation.

SMCPD calls on any information about the incident to call the department under 310-434-4300 and to refer to report no.: 25-82.

The department also advises the students to report all the suspicious activities of the police by calling the number mentioned above or using the Colleges Livesafe app for discrete communication with security officers.

This is a developing story.
