The public theater is now presenting the goddess and, after a successful world premiere in the Berkeley Repertory Theater, makes his New York debut. Production takes place in the Newman Theater by Sunday, June 8th. Take a look at photos of the line -up in action and look at highlights here!

The goddess comes for her New York premiere with music and texts by Michael Thurber, book and direction of the associated artistic director/resident director Sahem Ali, additional book material by James Ijames and choreography by Darrell Grand Moultrie.

A mysterious singer arrives in the Moto Moto, a steaming Afro-Jazz club in Mombasa, Kenya. She allows a reminiscent magic to everyone, including a young man who has returned home from studying in America. Will the big plans for his life – involve a political heritage and marry his fiancé – are excited? Inspired by the myth of Marimba, the goddess, who created beautiful songs from her heartache, this new musical is a rousing story of romance, the supernatural and the truest self.
