Red Sox 'Alex Cora supports Liam Hendriks to Krug, woman is exposed to death threats

Boston – One day after Red Sox Reliever Liam Hendriks had gone on social media to condemn offensive messages against him and his family to condemn managers Alex Cora to his player.

Cora spoke on Friday before the first game of a Doubleader against Baltimore in Fenway Park.

“We are in the public eye and people feel like saying the right to say what they want,” said Cora. “Sometimes it comes from real people. Sometimes it comes from burner accounts … fake people. It brings everyone to a hard place.”

On Thursday, Hendriks expressed his displeasure with threats to murder, which he had received after Boston's recent defeat against the New York Mets.

Hendriks posted on his personal Instagram account: “Threats against my life and the life of my wife are terrible and cruel. … I think I speak for all players who have had to deal with it in their career when I say enough that enough is enough.”

Hendriks is in his second season with the Red Sox and is 0: 1 with an ERA of 5.56 in 11 games. In 2023 he was treated for the lymphoma of non-Hodgkin. Last year, after signing Boston as Free Agent, he missed an elbow injury throughout the season that he had picked up during the spring training.

“I understand what he is trying to achieve,” said Cora. “We have to protect our players and we have to speak what we think.”

Although Cora was not at the same level as Hendriks, he was in the middle of a social media storm on Monday, after taking part in Boston College at the end of his daughter and missing the home game of that night against the Mets.

“If it is up to me, I will bring my daughter here and go through every account and filter it,” said Cora.

Cora has more than 78,000 followers on the X Social Media platform X. From time to time he will publish a short message. His most recent post was recorded to his daughter at the College degree -#Perfectday accompanied by a degree -Moji.

Cora noticed that he turned to Major League Baseball's security department after being suspended in 2020 because of his role in the Houston Astros fraud scandal in 2017.

“I brought my family into a difficult place, especially when the news came out. It was dangerous and we were afraid to be honest,” said Cora. “I don't want to go into details, but they did a great job.”

At a time when sports games come into play, Cora noticed the “dangerous way”, who appeared when the fans want to take their frustrations about the players through social media.

“A decision, a pitch, a piece, it takes it to a bad place and they personally take it,” said Cora. “This is not my fault. You have to be responsible for what you do.”
