Increasing NBA star reacts to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander “Foul Baiting”

The dominant discourse in the first two games of the Western Conference Final is about the growing controversial offensive style of the newly crowned NBA-MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

In a promotion of Taylor Rooks X., recently created on the bleacher reports' Taylor Rooks X. New Orleans Pelicans, Trey Murphy III, had an interesting answer as Rooks asked what it takes to defend Gilgeous-Aalexander, which was put under criticism because of its kind, foul.

“How can I formulate this without having to get into difficulties with the referees?” Said Murphy. “You just have to be patient, and you cannot be frustrated because he gets these calls, but so it was always. People who are the three best people will get a cheap pipe because this is only the respect they deserve.”

When asked by Tuoks, whether he sees the style of Gilgeous-Alexander as a lazy bait or legitimate goal competence, Murphy defended the Thunder star from Oklahoma City.

“When the NBA said: 'Okay, you can't do that,' It's different,” said Murphy. “It was almost like James Harden, as if he were almost as if he were to take advantage of a rule to a certain extent. But they still have to be clever enough to do it. I will not behave as if he weren't fouled.”

Gilgeous-Alexander led the NBA in free throw per game during the regular season with 7.9 and only Giannis Antetocounmpo (10.6) for the league leadership in free throwing at 8.8. Gilgeous-Alexander achieved an average of 8.2 free throws in 9.6 attempts in his 13 post-season appearances in 2025.
