Reduction of the focus of Tulsa Police Chief of the 1-year office in Tulsa

Tulsa, Okla. – The reduction in violent crime has been priority of Tulsa police chief, Dennis Larsen since his appointment a year ago.

“I would ask you to greet Dennis Larsen with me next police chief,” said the former mayor of Tulsa, GT Bynum.

On May 24, 2024, with the then mayor GT Bynum to his right and the then boss Wendell Franklin to his left, the 45-year-old veteran of the police authority Tulsa took over the reins of this department.

“At the beginning of 2024 I had no idea that I would sit in this seat in this office and that I was responsible for the well -being of over 1000 employees of the police authority, and this is part of my job that weighs hard every day,” said police chief Dennis Larsen.

2 News spoke exclusively to the boss about his priorities last year. In May 2024 he set out his goal.

“This will be a main focus in my next year. We are now great to solve murders. Let us work to prevent them from preventing them,” said Chief Larsen in May 2024.

New figures from the department show a decline in the most important crimes across the board.

“If you look at our crime figures, we have not only lost every ownership crime, but we have lost in every violent crime from robbery to murder to sexual assault,” said Chief Larsen.

Chef Larsen said that the number of murder from 71 in 2021 highlights this trend in 2024 in 2024.

“The unit runs like a good watch,” said Chief Larsen. “It doesn't miss a tick. It only stays smooth. They are just a group of brilliant detectives.”

Chef Larsen refers to good police work and technology to reduce these numbers.

“We don't do a good job as we do without using the technology,” said Chief Larsen. “Our officers, when they complete the academy on the highest officers, have more technology in hand than ever before.”

“What challenges did you see last year,” asked 2 News' Naomi Kitt?

“The challenges are mainly that the recruitment and increase of our numbers,” replied Chief Larsen.

“We know that we have to expand our department from the low 800 to 900 and then observe what we can do.”

Hope is on the horizon, with the first full academy since pandemic at 30 recruits next September.

“Every seat will be full,” said Chief Larsen. “This is a player for us.”

Chef Larsen says when he heads the department that has been at home for decades, the priority is that Tulsans have the safest city.

“Our passion is that you have the safest place to educate your children to get out and have a great time whether it is a run, be it a Christmas season, be it a Christmas season or a meeting place that there will be a Tulsa police officer to ensure that you are in safety,” said Chief Larsen.
