Here are the highlights of news and events that took place this week at the Rhode Island General Assembly:

The Senate approves the legal monitoring in new school buses
The Senate approved the legislation (2025-S 0568), introduced by the majority of the Senate, David P. Tikoian (D-Dist. 22, Smithfield, Lincoln, North Providence), after which all new school buses have to be equipped with digital video systems in order to monitor school bus violations. The draft law now goes to the house where similar laws (2025-h 5421) was introduced by Rep. Thomas E. Noret (D-Dist. 25, Coventry, West Warwick).

House OKS Bill add protective hairstyles to the racial discrimination law
The House of Representatives passed the legislation (2025-h 5841) by Rep. Jennifer A. Stewart (D-Dist. 59, Pawtucket) in order to prohibit discrimination due to hair structure and protective hairstyles. The draft law now changes to the Senate, where Senator Tiara T. Mack (D-Dist. 6, Providence) was introduced (2025-S 0519).

House OKS bill that can acquire clean nuclear power with the supply company
The house (D-Dist. 22, Warwick) introduced by Rep. Joseph J. Solomon (Dist. 22, Warwick) (2025-h 5575a), which would enable public supply companies to acquire clean, safe nuclear power from facilities outside the state. The draft law now changes to the Senate, where Senator David P. Tikoian (D-Dist. 22, Smithfield, Lincoln, North Providence) was introduced (2025-S 0318).

House Oks 'Purple Alert' Bill for missing people with disabilities
The house passed the legislation (2025-h 6165a), which was sponsored by Rep. Tina L. Spears (D-Dist. 36, Charlestown, New Shoreham, South Kingstown, Weester) to build a “purple alarm” system for missing adults with serious disabilities. The bill now goes to the Senate, where Senator Todd M. Patalano (D-Dist. 26, Cranston) has introduced similar laws (2025-S 0983).

Senate OKS Medicare Supplement Consumer Protections Bill
The Senate approved the legislation (2025-S 0610A) by Senate President Valarie J. Lawson (D-Dist. 14, East Providence) in order to determine consumer protection in connection with additional insurance plans from Medicare. The draft law now moves to the house where Rep. Kathleen A. Fogarty (D-Dist. 35, South Kingstown) introduced similar laws (2025-h 5494).

Hull (D-Dist. 6, Providence, North Providence) in order to oblige all public supply companies to maintain a customer service facility within the state. The legislation now goes to the Senate for examination.

The House of Prevention of Human Trade passes the law on human trafficking
The house adopted the law on the prevention and training of human trafficking (2025-h 5563), which was sponsored by Rep. Matthew S. Dawson (D-Dist. 65, East Providence). In the legislation, hotel employees and short -term operators of rental objects would receive an annual training to raise awareness of human trafficking. It now goes to the Senate, where Senator Andrew R. Dimitri (D-Dist. 25, Johnston) has introduced similar laws (2025-S 0549).

Law on the OKS Act template, which prescribes insurance coverage for infertility
The Senate approved the legislation (2025-S 0103) by Sen. Lori Urso (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket) in order to cover the costs for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility for women using the genetic diagnosis (PGD) with the pre-implant diagnosis (PGD). The invoice now moves into the house for examination.
