Spire rates storm damage, searches for gas leaks

St. Louis, Mo (first alarm 4) – Spire has been responding to gas leaks since the Tornado on May 16.

Rümmer that falls on gas knives is one of the main causes for the leaks. They ask the residents and volunteers who tidy up the rubble, to be diligent and report any smell of gas.

Spire crews were on the street that inspect the houses and shops along their gas pipes. With detectors and probes, check for LECKS. If you find one, make quick repairs.

Tanner Worley, a foreman with Spire, said: “We take our gas detectors and have readings accept. If it sniffs something out, we will start checking.”

If some of the lines are buried, Spire may take longer because they have to dig out the location.

Worley said: “If we find something, we will report it and react to it as needed.”

Spire warns that when you smell gas, call you immediately. Avoid using something that could ignite the gas.

Dallas Jones, the director of Service of Spire, said: “Everything can be transformed into a source of ignition, be it a telephone, a light switch or a kind of static current.”

While the power supply continues to return to the areas affected by the Tornado, Spire expects service calls to increase.

If you smell gas, call Spire under 800-887-4173.
