The police say that four victims are exposed to life -threatening injuries and suspect that the suspect may have suffered a “psychological emergency”.

The authorities in Germany arrested a woman after at least 17 people were injured in a knife attack at the main train station in the northern city of Hamburg.

At least four of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries in the mass stitch incidents on Friday evening, which took place in the middle of the city's evening house, the emergency services said.

The suspect, a 39-year-old German woman, was arrested by law enforcement authorities at the scene, said a spokesman for the Hamburg police.

The officials “approached her, and the woman allowed herself to be arrested without resistance,” said spokesman Florian Abbenseth in comments led by the public broadcaster ARD.

“So far we have no evidence that the woman may have had a political motive,” said Abbenseth.

“Rather, we have information based on it that we would now like to investigate whether you may have had a psychological emergency.”

The suspect is said to have “traded alone”, the Hamburg police said in a post on X.

Four of the victims have suffered life -threatening injuries, said Hamburg's fire brigade spokesman and revised an earlier number.

The suspect is said to have faced “against passengers” at the station, a spokeswoman for Hannover Federal Pilice Directorates, which also covers Hamburg, told the AFP news agency.

In the past few months, Germany has been shaken by a number of violent attacks that have brought security to the top of the agenda.
