Balloon release for teenagers who were killed when shooting the Lake Charles

Lake Charles, La. (KPLC)-The community came together and remembered the 16-year-old McKenzie Rideau, who tragically lost her life on a shootout at a Lake Charles House Party.

Friends, family and classmates of Rideau gathered tonight to honor their life with a balloon publication.

Rideau was a student at Lake Charles College Prep. She was a volleyball player and flag line member with a “bright smile and friendly hearts,” said LCCP director Dr. Freddie Harrison in an explanation.

“McKenzie was more than just a student, she was a light,” wrote Harrison.

The von Rideau family has set up a gofundme to cover the funeral costs.

After all, the police of Lake Charles did not make any arrests in connection with the shootout. LCPD asks everyone with information about the recordings to call them under 337-491-1311 or to submit an anonymous tip here.
