What Trump's legal and political conflict with Harvard means for university education

Laura Meckler:

Absolutely.

I mean what this really is is a war, not only on Harvard, but also in university formation. And there is a real break between the relationship between the Republican Party and the Conservatives and the University of University, especially the elite university formation, in the middle of a real – which was previously considered a crack.

While Colleges and universities were once seen as a crown jewel of this country, which we could all be proud of, the government was happy to be in federal grants because they produced groundbreaking research in medicine, engineering and other areas, and now it is being viewed very differently. And that has an impact on everyone.

Today it is considered a place where conservative thinking is not welcomed where they are elite and everyone else in the country looks down and that the Republican party, especially Donald Trump, has attracted. And we really see that.

This is currently a fight with Harvard, but it is really a much bigger question: How does this country look at university formation? And will the Republican Party continue their historical support for research and educational opportunities that offer these universities and universities?
