NC Troopers Investigation | Videos published from the fatal crash scene 2024 Tyrone Mason; NCSHP officers are not charged

Raleigh, NC (WTVD) – Videos in connection with a fatal crash in October 2024 on the Capital Boulevard were published. The videos led to an NC SBI examination, which was requested in January by the law firm of the Wake County district.

On Friday afternoon, several Body cam videos were published by the Raleigh Police Department and the Dash Cam videos from NC State Highway Patrol (NCHP) were released.

Tyrone Mason, a five -year -old five, died in this crash. Trooper Garrett Macario must be walked behind the vehicle after the wreck. He grabs a picture and a few seconds later he is approached by a police officer in Raleigh. The officer's body camera records their exchange.

Raleigh officer, “Were you like him or something? You just drove past?”
Trooper Macario answers with, “This is the area that I work like that and I came up with it and I saw the smoke and heard all the cars that met the rubble. I moved the tire off the street and that's still intact.”
Raleigh Officer answersPresent “Mmmm, okay.”

The Raleigh Police videos relate to the fatal accident in October 2024, which triggered an investigation by the soldier on site and the dismissal of hundreds of cases.

In the dash and body cam video published by NCSHP, you can see how Trooper Macario turns on lights and sirens and followed a frenzied car. Once near the scene of a crash, you can see smoke and debris on the other side of the street. Trooper Macario turns around the median and then switches off the lights and sirens.

You will then see him talking to someone by phone who will later be identified as his superior SGT. Matthew Morrison. He has Morrison by phone and they hear that he says Trooper Macario that he shouldn't say that he is concerned with the driver. To say that he “just got the scene”.

Macario and Sgt. Morrison has been an administrative holiday since January.

Two soldiers of the NC State Highway Patrol will be examined on October 7, 2024 for a fatal crash scene.

Lorrin Freeman, District Prosecutor of Wake County, said that Macario's false and misleading information would have led to her office rejected 180 cases. This is due to the doubts about Macarios credibility as a witness in these cases.

Freeman announced at the beginning of this week that she was not charges against him. She says the evidence would not support a successful conviction.

Lawyer Bakari seller represents the Mason family and criticizes the decision.

“She gives these officials the advantage of doubt that a normal citizen of Wake County would not get. They lied,” said seller.

Video -Release decision

This is followed by the judgment of a judge last week, in which the Dash Cam and the Body CAM film material in connection with a fatal crash last October against Capital Boulevard in Raleigh.

The published videos should contain records of all law enforcement officers who came across Mason on October 7, 2024 from 2:30 a.m.

In his decision, judge Thomas Currin said that it was in the best interest of the public and the credibility of law enforcement that records of the fatal crash of 31-year-old Tyrone Mason are published.

“I think that the publication of these videos is necessary to improve a convincing public interest, namely trust in law enforcement,” said Currin. “In addition, the public has a convincing right to know why the Wake County had to reject more than 180 cases due to these officials. I think there is a good reason to publish the videos.”
