Pro Motocross driver from Alpine says that injuries in sports are inevitable

Pala, California – Alpines Dilan Schwartz has been a motorcycle since he was 3 years old. At the age of 23, he competed in the Pro Motocross championship series, which starts a new season on Saturday on the Fox Raceway.

Schwartz in particular enjoys the dirt routes outdoors, outside the stadium environment of Supercross.

“Every time we drive outdoors, I have a smile,” said Schwartz.

Despite his passion for sport, Schwartz recognizes the considerable physical stands that the competitors claim. In motocross, serious injuries are not only possible – they are expected.

“We drive dirt bikes, so it has to happen. It's not as it is,” said Schwartz.

At a press conference in the Pala Casino in which the race of this weekend was promoted, every driver had to share injury stories on stage.

When Schwartz was asked about his own injury, he could not deliver a precise number of broken bones.

“I honestly said … I couldn't even count,” said Schwartz.

Schwartz has subjected seven interventions in his career. One of his worst injuries occurred about two years ago when he suffered a serious wrist injury.

While some motorsport fans are attracted to the possibility of accidents, Schwartz hopes that this is not what attracts people to motocross.

“I would hope not as a racing driver because I don't like to see it just because I know how bad it will hurt. Nascar, I understand very quickly. But they have a cage. We have no cage. We will only beat the dirt, so, yes, it will never feel good,” said Schartz.

Despite the physical risks, Schwartz remains committed to sport he loves.

“Ultimately, we drive for a living with dirt bicycles. It is fun, and for most of us it is worth it,” said Schwartz.
