The BMW Speedtop is shockingly expensive: video

Although BMW presents the Speedtop in the Concorso d'Elanza Villa d'Este as a concept, a production version follows. The German luxury car manufacturer is already opposing orders for the M8-based shooting brake and plans to build 70 units. Bavaria's breathtaking second-door car exists partly due to the overwhelming demand for the skytop concept of the past year. Limited to 50 units, the Cabrio in Targa-style pulled significantly more interest than BMW was able to meet.

The skytop was sold out for a long time and cost around € 500,000. It is not surprising that BMW now calculates about the same amount for the car follow-up. In view of the fact that the Targa price did not deter wealthy buyers, the new two -door car is probably another success. And these are not even the most expensive new BMWs that have ever been produced. This title goes to the 3.0 CSL, a revival of the Batmobil based on the M4 CSL. Price? Approximately € 750,000. Only 50 units were produced and BMW had no problems selling them.

Nevertheless, it is surprising to ask Rolls-Royce money for an M8. In Germany, a fully loaded M8 competition coupé with every option and a single painting costs less than half, around € 220,000. On the other hand, the speedtop has a completely new body. Apart from the dashboard, which it shares with the M8, it is difficult to say that this is the same car underneath.

According to insiders, the speedtop was originally planned as a coupé. BMW finally decided that a shooting brake would be more convincing, and you can say with certainty that you made the right call. Approval for production also makes the blow to know that the concept of the concept is never built. The revival of the Z4 M40I clown shoe remains only a one-time one.

BMW can justify the steep price through promising exclusivity through the limited production run. The speedtop is a breathtaking car, inside and outside, ideally suitable for collectors who are looking for a pure ice experience. MS is driven by MS most effective V8 of all time without hybrid support. When the era is only due to gas engines, hybrids and EVS take over to meet the regulations for ever stricter emissions.

This price of € 500,000 suggests that BMW, if another real super sports car, perhaps a coupé with medium engine, would cost more, would cost much more. While the Speedtop bangs a lot from the M8, a flagship model would be a tailor -made creation that shares little with existing cars. Enthusiasts still dream of a new M1, even if most of us could never afford one.

These special, structurally with low volume and coachbuilt projects are a strong step in the right direction. Their success can finally give decision-makers to trust a real BMW super sports car.
