The authorities say that German woman who was arrested after 18 injuries to the Hamburg knife attack

Eighteen people were injured in a knife attack on Friday in the German city of Hamburg – four of them remain in a critical condition.

The Hamburger police said she had arrested a 39-year-old German woman who believed that after a major police process, she played the attack on the city's central station alone. It is in police custody and is expected to be brought before a court on Saturday, the police said.

Six people were “seriously injured” while seven more were “slightly injured”, the fire brigade said. Dozens of emergency services were active on site.

The police previously said that several people had suffered “life -threatening injuries” in the attack.

The investigations on the incident are ongoing. The police said CNN that the officials currently do not accept political motivation, but examined whether the suspect was in a state of intellectual stress.

In a statement on Friday, the Hamburg police said that the attacker had “apparently stabbed the passers -by and critically injured some of them”.

“Further backgrounds and circumstances are not yet known. The investigation is carried out intensively,” says the police declaration. Further information would “be available as soon as you become available”.

After the attack, Friedrich Merz thanked the city's emergency helpers in Germany for their help and said that his “thoughts with the victims and their families” are, according to the Federal Government's spokesman, Stefan Kornelius.

The Federal Minister of the interior Alexander Dobrindt also said that his thoughts were with the victims and thanked the emergency services. “It is shocking when travelers are treacherous and cowardly attacked,” said Dobrindt.

According to the city's website, Hamburg's central station is the most busiest passenger train in Germany with more than 550,000 travelers per day.

Germany has been suspended in recent years. Some incidents have excited the tensions about migration before the parliamentary elections in February.

Some in the country were concerned about a number of top -class attacks that were allegedly carried out by asylum seekers or migrants.

In January, a 28-year-old man from Afghanistan was arrested after a knife attack in the German city of Aschaffenburg, in which two people were killed, including a toddler.

Last year, a Syrian man turned and confessed to stabbed three people and several others at a festival in the West German city of Solingen.
