A mother admitted that she was annoyed by her son's girlfriend after his grandfather died and the family did not hear from her.

The mother was still mourning for her father's death and turned to the Community Forum Mumsnet to find out about her son's friend who did not offer condolences.

“My son [in his late 20s] has lived on the other side of the country with his girlfriend “Grace” for more than a year and started her post.

“She was greeted, met the whole family – including the grandparents – and was nice, albeit a little shy and cumbersome,” she continued. “We ask every time we talk to our son on the phone and give messages such as congratulations on events in their lives that he tells us about.”

The mother's father died unexpectedly two months ago.

“My son was closely involved in grief and funeral planning,” she wrote before explaining Grace's absence. “We were showered with friendliness and condolences from friends and family, but we didn't hear a single look from her – no card or message to say that she is sorry.”

“Of course it is quite possible that Grace said to my son:” Please tell your family how sorry for me. “” But I am a little surprised and a little injured that they did not manage to pass on an message between the two. ”

Now the mother wonders whether she should ask her son why his girlfriend is silent about the sudden death of his grandfather.

“I am worried when I ask that my son will either take it as a criticism of him” but if I don't ask him, I will perhaps hold this little resentment against grace unfairly and/or my son will not learn anything about needing a little awareness where feelings and emotions are involved. ”

Many mothers users did not agree with the mother's negative feelings.

“It is strange that you have chosen that. I am sure she supports her son, and although it would also have been nice to pass on a message to you,” it would not be expected, “replied a reader. “She is not your girlfriend, she is your son's girlfriend.”

Another person agreed and said: “This is an overreaction and sounds as if they don't like them and want to feel validated in this election.”
